The Historic Dockyard Chatham will host two exciting events in support of ‘Museums at Night’ – a national campaign, led by Culture24 which showcases the unique and vibrant museums, galleries, heritage sites, libraries and archives in the UK

“A Murder in the Mast House” night time ghost investigation is back by popular demand and takes place spookily on Friday 13th! A murder took place in the Mast House and Mould Loft within the dockyard on 16 April 1875 and ever since the story has been related on the regular weekly Ghost Walks at The Historic Dockyard, strange things have occurred in the building. This building is allegedly one of the most haunted buildings within the dockyard. This intriguing overnight investigation will provide the opportunity to hear the story of the Murder in the Mast House in situ and to see if any of the reported ghostly goings-on re-occur. This event costs £35.00 per person, starts at 9.00pm on Friday 13th May and finishes at 2.00am on Saturday 14th May. The price includes refreshments.

“A Night at The Museum” spooky sleepover, sponsored by Sky Arts will be held for the first time in the remarkable No. 1 Smithery building. There have been unexplained experiences in this listed building and Scheduled Ancient Monument since it opened to the public last year. This event includes various activities during the evening of 14th May, including popular rocket firing, a visit to ROBOT – A collection of Robots, Cyborgs and Androids, a Ghost Tour in the Wooden Walls of England which is suitable for all ages, a quiz trail around No. 1 Smithery and a Sunset Ceremony at the end of the evening! Supper and breakfast are included in the price.

There are a limited number of subsidised tickets, courtesy of Sky Arts at a cost of £3 per person – once these have been sold out, they will go on sale at the normal price of £25.
This event runs from 7.30pm on 14th May until until 9.00 am on 15th May and the minimum age to attend this event is 8 years. All children must be accompanied by a full paying adult and all event areas have wheelchair access.

All bookings must be pre-booked and pre-paid by calling 01634 823845 or emailing museumsatnight@chdt.org.uk
