Refuse and recycling collections will be taking place on this weekend’s bank holidays.

Homeowners will be able to put waste out as usual during the Royal Wedding and May Day bank holidays this weekend.

Collections will also take place as normal on the Spring Holiday at the end of the month.

This is because refuse and recycling collections in Medway will not be affected by bank holidays from now on, apart from during the Christmas and New Year break.

Waste collections from homes in Medway were previously delayed by one day for Bank Holidays.

The changes started on Good Friday, 22 April, and mean there will no longer be a one day delay before refuse or recycling is collected.

This means that if your collection is due on a Monday or a Friday, it will take place on those days, whether it is a bank holiday or not. Similarly, if your collection is a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, it will be collected on your normal day – just like any non-bank holiday week.

Medway Council’s Assistant Director for Front Line Services Andy McGrath said: “Medway Council and Veolia have agreed that the rubbish and recycling collectors will work on bank holidays, apart from between Christmas and New Year.

“Of course, we have an additional bank holiday this month to celebrate the Royal wedding, so these changes will ensure we do not have any potential build-up of waste and recycling.”
