Children and families in Medway will be celebrating National Bookstart Day on Friday, 10 June, with stories and activities on this year’s theme of transport.

As part of the celebrations, Burnt Oak Children’s Centre is holding a morning of activities including free children’s rides and interesting facts about all their favourite modes of transport, including cars, planes, trains and boats.

The fun will take place from 9.30 to 11.30am at the centre at Burnt Oak Primary School, Richmond Road, Gillingham. For more information, call the centre on 01634 334344.

All Saints Children’s Centre will be donning fancy dress to celebrate with their families. Children and staff will be dressing up as their favourite mode of transport and all activities will be sticking to the theme.

This includes painting with tyres, making hats and key rings and decorating aeroplane gliders.

All families will also be given a book from Bookstart for taking part. The event will takes place from 9 to 11.30am at the centre on Magpie Hall Road, Chatham.

Over at Hand in Hand Children’s Centre, Twydall, Bookstart Day will be celebrated with arts, crafts, games, stories and songs all focused on the theme of transport. The centre is based at Twydall Infant School, Twydall Lane, Gillingham. For more information, contact the centre on 01634 365985.

Bookstart is a national scheme that encourages all parents and carers to enjoy books with children from as early an age as possible. It aims to give free packs of books to every child under five in the UK to inspire a love of books and reading.
