A new bus service will provide a direct and frequent link between Strood, Chatham and the Medway City Estate for the first time.

Starting on Monday, 8 August, the Strood Riverside service will run between 7am and 8pm daily, every half an hour from Monday to Friday, with an hourly service on Saturdays and a two hourly service on Sundays.

The service, numbered 170 and 174, is provided on behalf of Medway Council by Nu-Venture Coaches, and will run via Strood town centre, Strood railway station, Medway City Estate, Medway Tunnel, the Compass Centre, Dock Road and Chatham Bus Station.

Timetable leaflets are being delivered to main residential areas on the route, including businesses on the Medway City Estate.

The new link also includes a new pedestrian and cycle route (part of National Cycle Route 1) and new LED lighting, which will bring improved security for those cycling and walking between Strood Station and the Medway City Estate.

Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Front Line Services Cllr Phil Filmer said: “The new bus service will bring great benefits to residents and businesses while alleviating traffic congestion on key Medway City Estate routes”.
