Lancasters Removals, one of Kent’s leading domestic and commercial removal firms established for over 50 years, has been taking the strain for families moving home for over half a century.

Being a family-run firm, Lancasters understands that for many customers, the personal touch is more important than the corporate approach when it comes to taking care of people’s beloved belongings when moving home.

Relocation Manager Marcus Marchant has been in the removals industry for over 15 years and has accumulated a wealth of knowledge on the subject of domestic and commercial relocations. Understanding how stressful the moving process can be, his vast experience enables him to empathise with and allay the fears of customers who ultimately are literally putting all their worldly goods in his hands.

Marcus says “During my time in the removals industry I’m always coming across a new “challenge” and I have been involved in some pretty unusual situations. We once had to move the contents of a Houseboat moored at the Hoo Marina which involved some very careful and strategic ladder climbing! On other occasions we have moved customers quite literally from their existing house to their new property across the road but still had to load all their belongings onto our lorries until keys to the new property were released. One of our biggest challenges recently was to relocate a giant 9ft long by 4ft high 400 kilo plate glass fish tank from Northfleet to Norwich which we successfully did using a combination of special trolleys, steel girders and equipment usually used to transport pianos!”

Lancasters prides itself on offering a removals service that will cater for all customers – whether residential or commercial, local or Global. It’s furthest UK project involved driving from Chatham to Stornaway in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland to undertake a domestic relocation; and you really can’t get further from the UK than when Lancasters helped a couple from Thames View emigrate to Brisbane, Australia by organising the packaging, removal and shipment of their containers.

With regard to commercial removals, Lancasters is able to offer professional and specialist removal packages including crate hire, packing and relocation – whether from building to building or merely floor to floor. Its recent commercial customers include Towergate Insurance and DHL International (UK) Limited but perhaps the most prominent for Peninsula Times readers will be Gravesend Library. Lancasters has been at the forefront of helping Gravesend Library with its temporary relocation to 21-22 St George’s Square in the St George’s Centre while its long-standing home the Carnegie Building built in 1905 in Windmill Street is refurbished and extended.

After being requested by the Library to tender in January 2010, Lancasters beat 7 other contenders for the prestigious responsibility of moving the entire contents of the Library, including books, documents, bookcases, and all other furniture, storage and admin equipment. The brief included all packaging, crate supply and the specialist wrapping and secure packaging of valuable and irreplaceable archive documents such as historic records including manuscripts, volumes, charters, maps, prints and photographs.

Christoph Bull, District Manager of Gravesham Libraries was delighted with Lancasters’ help and stated “We couldn’t have done it without them. Lancasters’ meticulous planning and advice has been second to none and we are glad that they will be on hand when it comes to our return to Windmill Street. I found Lancaster’s to be very professional, very helpful and very friendly – three great things to have when working on a project this size.”

“Removal Companies are also one of the forgotten emergency services!” says Marcus. “Lancasters is often approached by insurance companies in urgent situations where householders have experienced flood or fire damage and properties need to be vacated and the contents put into storage. We were recently contacted to help in such a situation and we were able to have everything into our secure storage within 24 hours of the initial telephone call. We will be arranging to return the items when the flood damage to the property has been repaired”.

Marcus adds “The team of porters and I particularly enjoy our domestic removal projects as we get to know the customers and get a real sense of satisfaction when we see how our role in their move has helped them to get to their new home – especially when we have been involved at the outset by providing the packing materials and our professional packaging service before ultimately relocating them”.
