Young people can step into a new career thanks to a new fitness instructor course starting in September.

Active IQ is aimed at those aged 16 to 18 years, and is free to anyone not in education or training elsewhere.

The course is run by Medway Adult and Community Learning Service (MACLS) and is completely new for the autumn term.

The one year full time programme is an exciting option for young people leaving school or college who want to pursue a career in health and fitness.

Course graduate Matt Simmonds completed a personal training course with MACLS in 2010 and now runs his own business alongside working at Woodlands Gym in Gillingham.

He said: “Since passing my level 3 Personal Training I have started my own personal training business, gained many clients plus I feel I’m helping the community get fit for life.

“After a year of training I passed my qualifications and took my first steps into my new career.

“A year on and I have multiple personal training clients as well as a very successful boot camp programme and other classes.

“My life has changed since completing the personal training course and I’m hoping for a long and successful career.”

The fitness instructor programme for young people aged 16 to 18 years starts on Wednesday, 21 September at Woodlands Community Centre, Gillingham.
