A series of events are taking place across Medway in October to mark Black History month.

The annual festival, which is held nationally, celebrates diverse cultures and and traditions. In Medway it will include live music, story telling, circus tricks and specialist food events.

*Tuesday 14 October, the launch event at the Pilkington Building, Medway Campus, University of Kent.Members of the county’s youth parliament will host a celebration of art,dance,poetry and fashion. There will also be a live music and dance event at Fort Pitt Grammar School and the Medway Hindu Community Centre.

Throughout October there will be a celebration of African Art at the Brook Theatre, Chatham

Wednesday October 15, a talk by Keith Flett about the radical Victorian Chartist William Cuffay at Wigmore Library.

Saturday October 22, ‘Tales from the Caribbean and Africa’ at Rochester Library

Tuesday October 25, an African circus spectacular, including fire eating and human pyramids, at the Brook Theatre, Chatham

Thursday October 27, a chance to learn the traditional dance the Lindy Hop at the Brook Theatre, Chatham

Friday October 28, West African story telling for children at Strood and Gillingham libraries

Saturday October 29, a Caribbean market at Dane Court School
