Anyone interested in a fascinating new insight into the life of Sir Winston Churchill should make their way to the National Trust’s Chartwell shop on Thursday 20th October. Lady Soames, Sir Winston and Lady Clementine Churchill’s only surviving child, will be signing copies of her new book ‘A Daughter’s Tale- the Memoir of Winston and Clementine Churchill’s Youngest Child’ at midday. The book offers intimate details into the life of the great statesman’s daughter, how the trials of the Second World War affected every person in the country, no matter what their social standing or place in society, and what it was really like to be part of such a famous and historic family.

Alice Martin, House & Collections Manager, says ‘it is always wonderful to get an insight into life at the house from someone who actually grew up here, as it gives a real sense of Chartwell being a family home. Lady Soames has been a constant support to the property since it opened to the public in the 1960s and I am so pleased she has agreed to visit us for this very special event’.

As well as this intriguing new book, the gift shop at Chartwell offers a wide range of other books about Churchill – his life, paintings, speeches and thoughts, along with a range of other exciting Churchill memorabilia, so please pop down and take a look.
