Medway will celebrate the Chinese New Year with music, dancing and food this weekend, to welcome in the Year of the Dragon.

One of the largest Chinese New Year celebrations in Britain, the festivities start this Saturday, 21 January, in Chatham High Street (near Waterfront Way) and in the Pentagon Shopping Centre from 11.30am to 2.30pm.

There’ll be a feast for the senses including dancers in colourful Chinese costumes, stalls selling food, Chinese gifts and New Year Calendars and a children’s roundabout.

The celebrations continue on Sunday, 22 January with the magnificent Medway Chinese New Year Parade, which starts at 12noon in Military Road, Chatham. The event will include Chinese dragons, lion and unicorn dancers, and more than 150 people in Chinese costume.

Rounding off this year’s celebration will be the annual show from the Medway dragon and lion dance team at The Central Theatre, Chatham, a spectacular showcase of dragon and lion dancing, martial arts, Chinese pop music and traditional musicians along with special guests from Foshan in China. The show begins at 2.30pm and tickets cost £8 with concessions available. To book visit http://www.medwayticketslive.co.uk or phone the box office on 01634 338338.
