Medway’s school children are preparing to do battle in the Winter Festival of Sport.

The ten inter-school sporting competitions, including Champion of Champion events, will see winning schools vying to qualify for the Kent School Games finals in June.

Events run from Monday 27 February to Thursday 1 March at Medway Park and Brompton’s Garrison sports pitches, with sports ranging from football, swimming, rugby, hockey, basketball and badminton.

The festival opens with the finals of the primary inter-schools football league and ends with the boys Secondary School Games rugby sevens event at Medway Rugby Club and the girls tag rugby event at Medway Park.

Medway Council’s 2012 and Sport Development Team organises the Medway Festival of Sport in partnership with the Howard and Greenacre School Sports partnerships, national governing bodies of sport, local clubs and leisure facilities.

The competitions support the nationwide ambition to create opportunities for young people to compete against each other in sporting events as a legacy of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
