Champagne corks were popping this week as local National Trust property Chartwell welcomed its record-breaking 200 000th visitor for the 2011/12 season. The Robson Family from Oxted were greeted by Alice Martin, House & Collections Manager at Chartwell, and were presented with a bottle of Pol Roger, Sir Winston Churchill’s favourite champagne.

Alice says ‘we are absolutely thrilled to be able to welcome the Robsons to Chartwell on this very special day. We have had a fantastic year and it is tremendous to have reached this milestone figure with only 21 days left before the start of the new season. It’s been a great year for us all here at Chartwell, and to finish on such a high is amazing’.

Heather and James Robson, along with their daughters Amelia and Anabel, were thrilled with the unexpected gift. Heather says ‘this is really exciting! We’re so glad we decided to come out for some fresh air on the last day of the holidays – now Amelia and Anabel will have something exciting to tell their friends when they go back to school on Monday. We were given National Trust membership as a Christmas present so it was great that we decided to use it today at Chartwell ’.

The gardens, estate, shop, restaurant and studio at Chartwell are currently open Wednesday to Sunday, and from the 10th March will be open 7 days a week. The house also reopens on the 10th March and will be open from Wednesday – Sunday until the beginning of November.
