The Historic Dockyard Chatham celebrates the long awaited arrival of Spring with activities galore, suitable for all ages!

Spring into Action! Explosive activities for May weekends, 1-3pm
‘Launching’ on 12 May and running every Saturday and Sunday from 1pm – 3pm until 27 May
will be action packed Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) drop-in sessions giving visitors the chance to mix up their own gunpowder and try their hand at firing a miniature cannon or rocket missile – then see how close they can get to the target!
Shipwrecks & Rescues with the RNLI, 5-10 June, 11am-4pm
The crash of waves and cry of gulls beckons visitors to the RNLI Historic Lifeboat Collection gallery this June, where dramatic tales of disastrous shipwrecks and gallant rescues will be told! Running from 5-10 June, visitors are invited to explore the heroic work of the RNLI and listen to dramatic stories of real life sea-rescues featuring people included on the information panels around the gallery. They can make and test their own ‘self-righting’ lifeboat in a ‘stormy sea’ simulation tank in the No. 1 Smithery, have a go at medal making in the art and crafts activities, take the ‘Seagull’ trail and meet Stormy Stan, the RNLI’s very own mascot.

Man the Guns! 2-10 June throughout the duration of the day
From 2-10 June, aspiring sea cadets will have the opportunity to participate in some thrilling activities on board HMS CAVALIER. They will be able to get up close and hear the ‘boom’ as The Heritage Naval Gun Crew fire her guns, then join in with the crew on the mess deck for a costumed re-enactment that gives a fascinating insight into life aboard. They will enjoy hot drinks below decks in the crew’s quarters and witness the Captain issuing charges and punishment to the ships company!

Access to The Historic Dockyard Chatham and all the galleries and attractions is included in the normal admission price, however a small additional charge applies to some of these Spring activities.
