An exciting opportunity is available for two independent Lay Members to join the governing body of Medway Clinical Commissioning Group, which is preparing to take over commissioning NHS services in Medway from April next year.

These roles require ambitious, high quality people who are passionate about the wellbeing of Medway residents and will work to help improve their health and healthcare, reduce unacceptable differences in the life expectancy of people living in different parts of Medway and improve the experience of patients, while also ensuring good value for money.

They will work alongside the GPs and other clinicians who form the core of clinical commissioning group and will use their local knowledge and insight to benefit patients.

I feel these roles will enable individuals to have direct involvement in decisions about health care and wellbeing services in our community.”
Medway Clinical Commissioning Group is currently going through process of becoming authorised to take over the planning and purchasing of most healthcare services in Medway from April 2013.
There are two roles for the Lay Members on the CCG, with a focus on either Governance or Public and Patient Involvement.

Lay Member (Designate) – Governance: If you are interested in this role, you will need to bring strategic insight and impartiality to the governing body, overseeing key elements of governance, including audit, remuneration and overseeing conflicts of interest. Financial and audit experience is also essential to chair the CCG audit committee.

Lay Member (Designate) – Patient and Public Involvement: If you are interested in public and patient involvement, you will be helping to ensure that there is public and patient involvement in all areas of the CCG’s business and that people’s voices are heard and that opportunities are created and protected for patient and public empowerment in the work of the CCG.

The time commitment for each of these roles is a minimum of 2.5 – 3 days per month and remuneration is £8,000 per annum.
