A public consultation on school admissions arrangements for 2014 has started.
The annual consultation asks residents for their views on proposed arrangements for the admission of children into primary and secondary schools and is now underway for the academic year starting September 2014.
As well as setting out all of the key dates for the application process, including the closing dates for primary and secondary school applications and the offer date for school places, the consultation also looks at the arrangements for the Medway Test.
The Medway Test is sat every year by children who want to be considered for selection to a Medway grammar school. Following last year’s public consultation, primaries were able to hold the test in their own school, rather than in independent test centres as they had in previous years.
All of Medway’s maintained primary schools opted to hold the test in their own schools during September’s test, with some schools choosing to hold the test in their own schools during the week and some on the following Saturday.
Schools will again be able to hold the test in their own schools but in this year’s consultation, there are two options to be considered for the delivery of the test. These are for children to sit the test either over two days during the week or on the following Saturday- as it was this year, or the option for children to sit the test in one day, either during the week, on Wednesday, 18 September 2013 or on Saturday, 21 September 2013.
Following the consultation, Medway Council’s Cabinet will consider the responses and make a final decision on which option will be adopted for testing. Each Medway primary or junior school will then be asked to decide on the individual testing arrangements for their school.
Consultation documents on the new admissions arrangements have been sent to primary schools, children’s centres and nurseries across Medway. They are also freely available online at www.medway.gov.uk/admissions where a response form can be downloaded.

Completed consultation documents can be returned by email to simon.harrington@medway.gov.uk or posted to Simon Harrington, Student Services Manager, Level 4 Gun Wharf, Dock Road, Chatham, ME4 4TR.
The closing date for responses to the Medway consultation is Friday, 11 January 2013.
