Shoppers in Medway are being encouraged to take a trip down to their local market and discover the delicious, the fashionable and the bargains on offer.

The nationwide Love Your Local Market fortnight returns this week (15-29 May) part of a campaign run by the National Association of British Market Authorities championing market traders across the land.

Medway has two general markets based at Strood and Gillingham, both held twice a week, as well as a farmers’ market in Rochester, held on the third Sunday of every month.
They take place at the following times and locations:

• Strood Market is held every Tuesday and Saturday, 9am to 3pm behind the High St at Commercial Road car park.

• Gillingham Market is held Monday and Saturday, 9am to 4.30pm along Gillingham High Street.

• Rochester Farmers’ Market is held on the third Sunday of every month, 9am to 1pm at Corporation Street car park, Rochester.

Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Strategic Development and Economic Growth, Cllr Jane Chitty, said: “We have two bustling street markets here in Medway and a fantastic farmers market, which each add colour and vibrancy to our town centres.

“If residents haven’t been along for a while, it’s definitely worth popping down and taking a look.”
