O’Connell’s FC from the Rochester and District Football League won the first ever Medway Masters Football tournament on Saturday 1 June.

In an evenly contested final the team from Medway seemed to have the stronger legs from getting through the group stages and overcame a tired Betteshanger Welfare Vets FC 2-0 with a goal coming in each half. Wateringbury Vets FC claimed 3rd place.

The 6-a-side tournament took place at Anchorians FC, Darland Avenue, Gillingham. It was open to teams or groups of players aged 35 and above, with a maximum squad size of 10 players. The tournament was run in partnership with Anchorians FC, the Rochester and District Football League and the Kent Football Association. The Medway Masters forms part of the Medway Festival of Sport 2013 – a programme of 50 events in 70 days involving some 12,000 people.
