Artistic portrait with textured background, bearded man with VenGB Theatre Company will be returning to Arundel Castle from 22-24 August for three enchanted evenings of outdoor Shakespearean performances as part of the Arundel Festival.

Hosted in the unique setting of the Castle’s immaculate Collector Earl’s Garden, GB Theatre Company will be performing two of Shakespeare’s best loved comedies against a floodlit castle backdrop.

This year’s audiences can enjoy alfresco performances of The Merchant of Venice and A Midsummer Night’s Dream in a particularly apt setting, as Castle Manager Bryan McDonald explains:

“We are delighted to welcome GB Theatre Company back to Arundel Castle this August as part of the town’s wider Arundel Festival programme. The Company always brings much drama and entertainment to the Castle with its unique performances. It is especially fitting that A Midsummer Night’s Dream will be set against the backdrop of Oberon’s Palace within The Collector Earl’s Garden. The Palace, a major feature of the Garden, was designed in tribute to Oberon, King of the Fairies, in the play.”

The plays will be performed by highly skilled members of GB Theatre Company, the majority of whom trained at Bristol’s Old Vic Theatre School which is renowned for its focus on Shakespearean acting. Famous alumni of the School include Daniel Day-Lewis, Jeremy Irons and Patrick Stewart.

Barrie Palmer, Company Director of GB Theatre Company comments: “We are thrilled to be returning to Arundel Castle this August. The Castle offers an incredibly special space in which to perform and we always receive a wonderful welcome here from the local community”.

“This year’s plays will combine superb acting with brilliant comedy in what promises to be three highly entertaining evenings. Our young directors have created wonderful shows which we are confident will impress both long-standing fans and those new to Shakespeare. What’s more, original live musical compositions have been crafted specifically for these two plays and we have even been working with the Magic Circle to ensure we have a few extra tricks up our sleeves this year!”

Tickets for the performances are priced from £15 for children and £25 for adults. Ticket holders are invited to arrive early and enjoy a hog roast or their own picnics in the Castle grounds before the performances commence in The Collector Earl’s Garden.
