SONY DSCNew mums can find the help and extra support they need at Medway Breastfeeding Network. That’s the message from A Better Medway, which is encouraging more pregnant mums to attend a drop-in before their little one arrives to get tips and meet other mums breastfeeding their babies.

In celebration of World Breastfeeding Week from 1 – 7 August, A Better Medway is offering a free information pack plus entry into a prize draw for £50 Mothercare vouchers for new mums who register with the Network by 31 October. Medway Breastfeeding Network is a friendly, knowledgeable support network for local families that provides regular drop-ins and lots of useful local information and tips so mums can enjoy breastfeeding their baby.

New mum Terri came along to a breastfeeding drop-in so that she knew some friendly faces when baby Aurora (now seven weeks old) arrived. She’s been much more confident feeding with the tips she discovered before her baby arrived. Terri is now sharing her experience with other mums at the drop-in including Tara (whose baby is due in October) who didn’t know anyone else who had a breastfed their baby before; she is feeling more positive seeing other mums breastfeed.

Dr Alison Barnett, Medway’s Director of Public Health, said: “Sometimes, you need someone you can turn to, and help is at hand. Mothers are not always aware they are entitled to paid time off from work to visit a session while pregnant. “A community support system for mothers is essential, and the Medway Breastfeeding Network can offer information and friendly support to help mums breastfeed their babies for as long as they choose to.”

To register with the Network, please visit a drop-in, ring 01634 331054 or email ifp@medway.gov.uk
