chatham-watersFollowing detailed planning approval being given last night (Wedneday, 12 September 2013) for the first phase of the Chatham Waters development at Chatham Docks, Gillingham, Medway Council Leader Rodney Chambers said:

“Chatham Waters is a key development for Medway and we are pleased that the first phase can now go ahead. This marks the beginning of a new era for the docklands at Gillingham, which promises to bring thousands of local jobs and economic prosperity to the area.

“Medway has attracted a major regeneration developer to the area in Peel Land and Property and I am pleased that they have changed the first phase scheme to take account of concerns about its design. We look forward to making good progress with them.”

The overall scheme will transform 26 acres with a conference centre, hotel, superstore, apartments, town houses and a supermarket.

The first phase will produce the attractive superstore building in a generous central park setting. A pub restaurant and café buildings have been removed to overcome the design concerns.
