booksKeen teen readers will be pleased to know that this year they have their own reading challenge to take part in – with some great prizes up for grabs.

Medway Libraries has developed a reading challenge for 13-16 year olds, after feedback from young people last year showed there was massive interest in a challenge of this kind.
Younger children are already catered for with the national and ever-popular Summer Reading Challenge, but now teenagers have their own scheme.

The Teen Reading Challenge starts on 13 July, with young readers encouraged to read six books of their choice over the summer break – it could be a library book, library audiobook or library e-book. More

Medals aren’t just for Olympic athletes this summer. Medway’s school children can also receive a medal for finishing a summer reading challenge. The Story Lab challenge starts on Saturday, 14 July and is aimed at children aged from four to 12.
Children need to read six books over the summer holidays. Prizes for completing each book include scratch and sniff stickers, and much more. Those that finish all six books will receive a medal and certificate. The reading challenge is free to join. Pop along to any Medway Library for details and to take part.

Giant stamps created by children to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee are now on display at The Brook Theatre Art Gallery.

Back in April, more than 40 children took part in a number of library workshops where they were able to dress up and make crowns before posing for Medway artist Wendy Daws who drew their silhouettes for the colourful stamps.

The workshops and exhibition were organised by Medway Arts Development Team and Medway Libraries.

A Right Royal Exhibition is on at The Brook Theatre Art Gallery, Chatham, from 21 May to 22 June, open from 9.30am to 5pm.
