British Fencing has announced that that this year’s Cadet and Junior GB Championships will be held at Medway Park on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 February. This is the first time that this event has been held at Medway’s centre for sporting excellence and everyone is welcome to come and watch the event. More

For the first time, the British Transplant Games – one of the largest multi-sport events in the UK – is being held in Medway this summer.
Six hundred patients, including many from Kent and Medway, having had lifesaving transplants will compete in track and field events, such as running, the high jump and a mini-marathon.
The event, held between 23-26 August at Medway Park, Gillingham, highlights the importance of the Organ Donor Register. It is staged by Medway Council on behalf of Transplant Sport UK. More

The Olympic Torch will arrive in Medway next Friday, 20 July, as church bells ring, Fort Amherst’s canons are fired and a flotilla of yachts pass under Rochester Bridge.
Torchbearers will start the journey at Gillingham shortly before 8am on Friday, 20 July, before passing through Chatham, Rochester and Strood. More

Creative quilters in Medway have been stitching and sewing in a bid to help produce 14,000 quilts for athletes competing in the London 2012 Games.

The Quilts for London day was held at Rochester Community Hub last month (September) and organised by Medway Adult and Community Learning Service (MACLS) in partnership with Rochester Sewing School and Medway Libraries.

New and experienced quilters were encouraged to get involved and 15 quilted flags were produced on the day. The quilts will now be sent off to the organising body.

MACLS runs a number of creative courses and in 2012 these will include… glass art, jewellery design, sewing, knitting and pottery.
