shoe box appealBlythswood Care are running their Christmas shoe box appeal for the 20th year! Please click on the HERE to watch a short video of the fantastic work they do and the stunning effect a shoe box can have. Get your local school involved, your WI or your football team, it never hurts to give a little.

Fill your shoe box with everyday items that you accept are always in your cupboards or on your shelves at home. Comb, hair brush, toothpaste, deodorant, note pads, pens or shampoo. It is the things we take for granted that others go without and it is also some of those things that can make the biggest difference to people living in real poverty. Imagine that you are just cleaning your teeth with toothpaste for the first time since last Christmas, how good would that feel. Imagine putting on a new pair of socks for the first time in four years, these are the realities that some people live with. Imagine you have a pound coin in your hand and are wondering whether you need food, water or the heating most. Do you buy medicine for your elderly parent or your youngest son, some people have to make that sort of choice daily, give them a break, fill a shoe box.

The Friends of The Wisdom Hospice are holding their annual Christmas Fair at the Hospice in High Bank, Rochester on Saturday 26th November from 10am until 2pm. There will be over 20 stalls selling a wide range of goods including jewellery, handbags, candles, soaps and cakes. The Friends’ range of Christmas cards and goods will also be on sale and there will be plenty of games to try.

Santa will be making time in his busy schedule to visit between 11am and 1pm to listen to children’s Christmas wishes and to hand out gifts. Refreshments will also be available including soup and ploughman’s lunches. Admission is 50p for adults. Children go free.

The Wisdom Hospice is the only adult hospice serving the Medway and Swale area, providing specialist palliative care to patients with life limiting conditions. The Friends of the Wisdom Hospice support this work through an annual grant to Medway Community Healthcare. The grant for the current year is £560,000. In addition the Friends make grants to Crossroads and the Marie Curie Nursing Service to provide extra support to patients and their families in their own homes.

Emma Dengate, Fundraising Co-ordinator for The Friends of The Wisdom Hospice, said “This fair will have something for everyone. This is a great day out for the whole family and you are sure to pick up a Christmas bargain or two!” Further information available from: Emma Dengate – 01634 831163
